About TWR Computing
TWR Computing began in 1992 under the ownership of Trevor and Mary Rix (see below). In March 2008 the business was bought by Tony Beardshaw of My History in South Yorkshire.
Tony has over 26 years experience of genealogy and using family tree software. Over twenty of those years have also been spent analysing and selling software to other people doing their family history. Tony is also working on a one name study of his surname. Employees working for the business are also encouraged to research their own family history and to use the software we sell. In fact, at least three members of staff were researching their family history before starting to work for the business.
We are therefore well placed to advise customers on what is best for their requirements. We offer our advice and unlimited support free of charge by telephone and e-mail, normally 9am to 5.15pm Mon - Fri.
The TWR Computing website is now an established supplier of historical directories and maps for genealogists.
The TWR Computing business has always been and always will be about quality of service and support.
History of TWR Computing
The TWR Computing business started by Trevor and Mary Rix evolved from two hobbies and began on 1st September 1992.. It was the first specialist supplier of family history software in the UK and was based at their farm in Suffolk for 15 years.
By 2007 Trevor had been researching his forebears for over 40 years (unusually, he started as a teenager), and his wife and business partner Mary had been ancestor hunting for over 30 years. They met through the Members' Interests' lists of the Essex Society for Family History. Both descend from a common ancestor in 1656 and are 10th cousins once removed. They are both long-standing members of the Society of Genealogists (Trevor since 1975), and Trevor is a founder member of both the Suffolk Family History Society and the Essex Society for Family History. Both Mary and Trevor have been very much involved with projects and publications for Suffolk Family History Society. Mary is chair and records secretary of The Bunting Society. Trevor is a founder committee member of the Computer Group of the Essex Society for Family History.
Trevor and Mary continue their work with the societies and having retired from the supplies side of the industry they now hope to find more time to carry on with the research side of their own family history.
