Product Description
When we obtained the directory most of the advertisement pages had been roughly torn out (only pages 4, 5, 52, 53, 54 & 55 remain) but the whole of the indexes and directory pages are complete. In addition, the two maps of Wiltshire: a copy of John Speed's map of 1610 and one drawn for the directory, though somewhat creased and torn, have survived. Both maps are slightly too large to scan in a single piece on an A3 scanner (whilst the whole of the county can be scanned in one, some of the legends at the edges of the map are cut off). In addition to scanning as much as possible of each map as a whole, therefore, they have also been scanned as overlapping tiles which have subsequently been stitched together (though a little imprefectly because of the creasing). All three scans plus the stitched version of each map have been included on the download. Other than the maps the directory contains: Advertisements; Indexes; Towns and Villages Directory (Alphabeticly listed); Private Residents Directory (Alphabeticly listed); Trades & Professional Directory (Alphabeticly listed).
A number of the scanned pages appear not to be straight. This is a result of the way in which the original book was printed rather than the scanning.
